Train horn audibility crash – acoustic forensics
For the testing I used a Dodge 2013 Caravan (very similar to the van involved in the matter at hand). I was able to secure a parking space very close to the location on Cooper Grove Road, just south of 139th street, next to the left turn arrow (as shown below):
The HATS was located in the drivers' side seat with both ear microphones connected to the B&K test system. A
third microphone was located very close to the vehicle exterior and also was connected to the test instrumentation.
